Economy: Viewpoints and Victimizations

by grammaticaster | January 28th, 2009 @ 7:14 pm

A)  Fist things first.  Benjamin Barber at The Nation has written a macro-economic masterpiece of an article which puts forward such delectable nuggets as:
If we are to survive the collapse of the unsustainable consumer capitalism that has possessed our body politic over the past three decades, idealism must become the new realism.
Where, sir, have you [...]

My Progress (or lack thereof)

by grammaticaster | January 26th, 2009 @ 7:37 pm

Today, I finally got off my lazy ass and went to the gym for the first time in months. My New Year’s resolutions are kind of sputtering to life over the waning January days, but they are very much alive. It feels good to set and accomplish a goal — even a small one such [...]

Slappin’ Skin In DC

by grammaticaster | January 25th, 2009 @ 1:03 am

I have watched this many, many times. It is still funny. Must share.

Change/Hope/Pomp/Circumstance

by grammaticaster | January 21st, 2009 @ 12:10 am

I am not going to try to pontificate on President Obama’s inauguration.  There are plenty of other, better craftsmen who will pen poetic personal testimonies of their various inaugural experiences from their own unique viewpoints.  Some, for instance, have captured “the moment” on video.  Others posted photographs.  I will simply post the full CSPAN video [...]

Why I will never eat at Veranda ever again.

by grammaticaster | January 18th, 2009 @ 10:49 pm

I waited two days to blog about this experience because I wanted to approach the subject from a fair, clear-minded perspective.  I think I should start off, too, with an explanation of my wife’s and my dining habits.  The views I am going to express in this article are necessarily skewed by monetary issues, and [...]

He’s Gettin’ Awful Windy

by grammaticaster | January 18th, 2009 @ 12:55 am

From David Letterman’s “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches.”  Enjoy – both the comedy and the fact that this abominable and absurd era is almost over.

Goosed!

by grammaticaster | January 15th, 2009 @ 11:32 pm

Come on.  This is fantastic!

Three cheers for the pilot & copilot.  They just greased it onto the river surface like it was an alternate runway.  No panic.  They put her down where no one on the ground would be in harm’s way.  They made sure everyone got out.  What an awesome, heartwarming story.  [...]

Calming the Tempest (or Stirring the Pot)

by grammaticaster | January 12th, 2009 @ 7:52 pm

It has been made strikingly clear to me – by several different and respected corners of my grammatacalaxy – that last week’s Imagine No Religion post needs some elaboration.  Some are troubled by the blanket statement, “religion is bad,” that the graphic implies.  Others are simply incredulous at the very idea of my atheistic rebellion.  [...]

Imagine No Religion

by grammaticaster | January 8th, 2009 @ 11:29 pm

Hat tip to Richard Dawkins, whose book The God Delusion I finally finished two nights ago.  It pretty much gives an intelligent, articulate voice to a great number of theological thoughts that have been troubling me for years.  Still probing and pondering.  More in-depth posts to come.

Resolution #2009

by grammaticaster | January 5th, 2009 @ 7:20 pm

The gifts just keep coming.  It was back to the office today after a nearly two-week break.  And yeah, it always sucks going back to work.  But I was greeted by three year-end checks (a Christmas bonus and unused sick leave pay in addition to my normal paycheck) and a brand-spanking new Dell desktop computer, [...]
